Xiah was born and raised in Gyeonggi-do , South Korea. He has an older fraternal twin brother named Junho.He enjoyed singing at his church since he was young.
The first member to join was Kim Junsu. At the age of 12 he was brought into SM Entertainment through a televised talent search with Moon Hee Jun and Kangta from H.O.T. as judges. His vocals won over the judges and procured him thorough training for the next six years.
After entering SM, he begin his training for his future ahead. After three years, a 3 member RnB group was planned with Xiah, Hyukjae and fellow schoolmate Sungmin as the member. However, Xiah's voice change started as he went through puberty and that caused him to be unable to sing. Because of this, he lost several opportunities to debut. Xiah has often felt it was his fault that his other members could not debut as well, even though others have often tried to console him.

.He song with his heart that's why i love him when i hear his voice...When his voice change ended, SM was planning the creation a new group. Xiah was the first member to be chosen for this group. His talent in vocal and dance made him one of the best trainees at the time. The other four members were also leaders in their respective training groups. While the group was still being created, Xiah's personality allowed him to quickly make friends with his new members.

Promise U, Talk Play Love, Daydream - Anyband songs, Anyband is an advertisement group created by the Samsung company. Its members are BoA, Junsu, Tablo and Jin Bora. (Daydream is a remake of an English song; Junsu wrote the Korean lyrics)
All Rise - A Blue cover song Xiah sang at a concert, where Eunhyuk was guest and did the rap part.composed "White Lies" He composed and sang "My Page", which was performed in the 2nd Live Asia Tour Concert - 'O'.
He composed a Japanese solo "Rainy Night", which was featured in the "If...!? / Rainy Night" single, the third installment of the group's "TRICK" series.
He performed and toured around Korea as member of the promotional group Anyband with BoA, Tablo of Epik High, and Jin Bora. The project band was formed by Samsung's Anycall, and had several singles: "TPL (Talk, Play, Love)," "Promise U", "Daydream".
He had a duet with Zhang Liyin, "Timeless", which was featured in Zhang's first single, "Timeless". He also sang the Chinese version of the song with Zhang, which was the last track of Zhang's first Chinese album, I WILL. Xiah was also featured in the second part of the two-part "Timeless" music videos.
Wrote the lyrics for the song "노을..바라보다 (Picture of You)" from the fourth Korean album, 'MIROTIC'.
